Welsh Varsity 2026 saw overwhelming success for Cardiff with CUNC adding their own win to Cardiff’s impressive scoreline.
Another year of Welsh Varsity meant a tense match for Netball after a late defeat for CUNC last year. This year however, CUNC took back their title, winning 55-37 against Swansea, reclaiming glory after a shocking last minute defeat in last year's game. The girls on court were out for revenge and fought for a stunning win for all those in red on home turf.
Last year saw late heartbreak for Cardiff, Swansea were victorious which ended Cardiff’s 14 year reign as Varsity champions. The game ended in a close 42-40 which went in the Swans’ favour and named them the unlikely champions in a tense final few minutes for both sides. An excellent performance from both teams, yet Swansea were able to edge it in the final moments of play. However, this lit a fire under our girls who this year were a clear threat to Swansea to reclaim their top spot.
Despite the new changes for accessing high profile events such as Netball, the support was still a huge part of the game with roars of support from our students. Sport Wales National Centre once again was packed with students dressed in red and green who were separated by the players on the court with cheers and screams coming from both sides. The end of the last quarter and the final whistle prompted a sea of red flooding onto the court, to celebrate with our champions as they were once again named the rightful Welsh Varsity champions with their 18 goal lead.
