Terms of service

The terms for using Gair Rhydd online.

These terms explain how you may use our website, read and share our journalism, and send material to the newsroom.

Last updated 2 October 2026

About these terms

These terms apply when you use the Gair Rhydd website. Gair Rhydd is Cardiff University’s student-led newspaper and operates within Cardiff University Students’ Union. By using the website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the website.

Reading the newspaper

You may read our published articles and available print editions without creating a reader account. You may save pages for personal study and share links to our work.

We may update, correct, move or remove content when editorial or legal reasons require it. We may also change or pause parts of the website without notice.

Copyright and reuse

Unless a credit says otherwise, Gair Rhydd or the named contributor owns the copyright in the words, photographs, illustrations and design published on this website.

You may quote or reuse material where the law allows. For any other copying, republication or commercial use, please ask the Editor-in-Chief for permission at editor@gairrhydd.com. Permission from Gair Rhydd does not cover material credited to another copyright owner.

Tips, pitches and other contributions

When you send material to the newsroom, you confirm that you are entitled to share it and that, to the best of your knowledge, it is not unlawful or deliberately misleading. Please tell us if material is confidential or sensitive.

The editorial team decides whether to investigate, edit or publish a submission. Sending something does not guarantee publication. If we want to publish substantial original work, we will discuss any permissions or changes that are needed with you.

Editorial content and corrections

Articles reflect the reporting and views of their named authors and do not necessarily represent Cardiff University or Cardiff University Students’ Union. Our journalism is provided for general information and should not be treated as professional advice.

We aim to report accurately. If you believe something is wrong, incomplete or unfair, please email editor@gairrhydd.com so the newsroom can review it.

Acceptable use

Please do not use the website to break the law, infringe another person’s rights, interfere with the website, attempt to gain unauthorised access, introduce harmful code or place an unreasonable load on the service.

We may restrict access where this is reasonably necessary to protect the website, its readers or the newsroom.

Links to other websites

Our articles and directories may link to websites run by other organisations. We choose links for their relevance, but we do not control those websites or their availability, content or privacy practices. Their own terms apply when you visit them.

Availability and responsibility

We take reasonable care when operating the website, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, secure or free from errors. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for loss caused by relying on general editorial content or by a service outside our control.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any responsibility that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms when the website or the law changes. The date at the top shows when they were last revised. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.
