After going down 2-0 in the first half of the match the lionesses launch 3 goals passed the Netherlands in a sensational comeback.
The lionesses looked strong when they kicked off but with the lack of Chelsea’s magnificent Millie Bright it was clear that the back line was not as strong as it usually is. A poor performance in the first half all round as Netherlands Number Seven on the night Lineth Beerensteyn scored two goals passed the mighty Mary Earps in the 12th and 35th minutes of the match. England needed a miracle, and that miracle was the brilliant Beth Mead. It was amazing to see her talent on the pitch for England again after a serious ACL injury. The game completely changed when Meado was running on the pitch with Georgia Stanway scoring the first goal in the 59th minute and Lauren Hemp securing the equaliser swiftly after in the 60th minute. England wanted to win in front of all 71,632 people and give them a moment to remember so of course they needed their super subs Alessia Russo and Ella Toone who were subbed on in the 68th minute. Arsenal's Alessia Russo was doing everything she possibly could to try and get the crucial third goal to get the win at Wembley while Netherlands counter attacks were still as strong as ever. England needed to park the bus with a solid defence which required Rachel Daly to come on in the 83rd minute. It was obvious England was not giving up hope with 5 minutes of added time to play they needed some magic. Manchester United’s magician Ella Toone proved once again that she owned Wembley scoring the winning goal in the 91st minute. Gala’s Freed from Desire echoed around Wembley when the final whistle was blown. Emotions were mixed at full time Mary Earps was in tears in her post match interview admitting that she had let her team down and that the second goal she had let in would haunt her. Overall, the majority of emotions were happy ones, and this puts the lionesses in a great position for the UEFA Women’s Nations League and Olympic qualification for Team GB.
