Alongside the launch of Llais Rhydd, Gair Rhydd’s brand new podcast, the Sport section is delighted to announce our very own show: Llais Rhydd Sport!

With a new edition out every month, Llais Rhydd Sport is your new home for student-focused sporting news, and it promises to report, debate and celebrate every important issue facing Cardiff University’s teams and participants.

We’ll be bringing you interviews with players and coaches from sports across the university, tackling the biggest talking points in Welsh sport, and touching on the stories shaping the wider sporting world.

Whether you’re an IMG fanatic, a BUCS star, or just a casual sports fan, there’s something here for you.

The show is hosted by me, Head of Sport James Leigh, alongside University Sport editors Mael Le Paih and Kieran Miller, Wales editor Ollie Hedley-Lewis and UK editor Jacob Hamblin.

Our first edition begins with BUCS rugby, where we take a look at Cardiff men’s narrow loss to Brunel before exploring what the University’s new partnership with Cardiff Rugby may mean for the side on and off the pitch.

We then move onto football, where we dive into the men’s victory over Gloucestershire and examine the women’s frustrating draw against Exeter.

In hockey, we take a look at the latest results of the women’s sides, before Ollie tells us all about the Men’s 2s recent 9-1 victory, a result, which for some reason, he was rather reluctant to tell us about. Listen to find out why…

To finish up the University sport conversation, we speak to our very own Jacob Hamblin about one of Cardiff’s newest BUCS teams, Gaelic football. A side which is very important to him, and one he is proud to be a part of.

Beyond university, we preview the inaugural Nations Championship and what to expect from Steve Tandy’s Wales against Japan, New Zealand and Australia. We also check in on Welsh football before expressing our own opinions on Harry Kane’s Ballon D’or win.

Listen in to find out more.

Llais Rhydd Sport is just getting started, and we can’t wait for you to join us.
